Girls Night Out!

On Thursday, I had a girls night out with my friend Mary. Mary and I met in University. We were both in the same program and lived in the same residence. The first time Mary and I hung out we talked for hours like we had known each other for years. We became best friends and were pretty much inseperable during our three year journey. Then, I moved out of our apartment and went to live with my boyfriend and his brother. Mary took a year of school and we weren't hanging out as much. Then school and regular life got in the way and we barely see each other because of different schedules and so on. Anyways, we decided it was time to hang out and after many scheduling complications we finally managed to get together.

We started the night at her place by getting ready and having poutine from Smoke's. If you've never tried their poutine before you have to go now! Get the nacho grande! Best poutine ever. We also predrank in company of our good friend Jack. Yes, whisky and coke it was. We decided to go to Brunny's because it always guarantees a good time. For us anyways. We got there a 10:30pm (in Brunny terms this is early. The party doesn't get goo until 12) so we could sit and enjoy some whisky cranberry. Weird to say I'd never tried that combination before but it was good. We then had their famous koolaid, melon liquer and vodka drink. Delicious but deadly. Beware! Every time I have this by myself I don't remember much afterwards.

We were then approached by some guys wanting to get our number. We just stared at each other trying to get them away before just giving them fake numbers so they'd leave. Not gonna lie, it's flattering to have guys ask for your number. It gives me some hope that if I'm ever single again that I can still get some action. Although, I still hold on to that theory that when you're taken you give of some sort of scent that only guys can detect and it makes you more desirable. Why do I believe this? Because when I was single I was never really approached for my number. Sadly, I did most of the chasing. Now that I'm taken more people approach me so I think my theory is pretty strong.

We then danced the night away. I had planned on leaving at midnight because I had work the next morning however anyone that knows me knows that to whatever time I "plan" to leave you add another two hours or more and that's when I'll really leave. As I mentioned before the party doesn't start until 12 so then I kept putting off my leaving time until it was 1:30am and then I really knew I had to go if I planned on getting the subway home.

I had a great time and can't wait to do it again. It's nice to reunite with dear friends and act like you did three years before minus the kitchen makeout. I'll leave that story to another time.

Please excuse the terrible pictures taken by my iphone. Think I need a real camera next time.

Thanksgiving Weekend

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving weekend. I certainly had a good one. The long weekend started on Friday night with the boyfriend and I watching a soccer match between Mexico and Panama. This was an important match as it determined whether or not Mexico would qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. The game started out slow but Mexico scored just before the end of the first half making the score 1-0. The second half was the most exciting! Panama scored making the game tied. Chicharito had an opportunity to get Mexico ahead with a penalty shot but sadly it was stopped by the goalie. Thankfully, Jimenez scored this beautiful goal minutes before the end of the second half. All we need now is to beat Costa Rica and we’ll ensure our way to the World Cup!! After the match we met friends at Dance Cave for some dancing and drinking.

Saturday night we went out to 244, a bar at Adelaide and Duncan . Cover was $10 and drinks were $3. Score! The night started out slow and the dance area downstairs was crowded making me feel a bit like a sardine. After a few drinks though I felt less crowded in and the night ended with our friends and their new conquests (haha) coming over to our place to continue the party. We also ended up with one of our neighbours joining us and it turned out his friend was half Mexican. I ended up going to bed at around 5:30 in the morning and leaving the partygoers to continue the party because I had work the next morning.

Sunday morning I tiredly worked and was glad when my work day was over. I headed home to shower and watch tv for a bit before heading out and joining my boyfriend at our friends’, Hans and Lars, place for a Thanksgiving dinner. I missed most of the fun and came at the end but I still managed to get some turkey which is all I really wanted, haha.  Our friends went out to Guvernment  for their 17th anniversary event but we chose to go home instead and save the $100 we would probably spend.  We ended up watching some interesting and heartbreaking documentaries on Netflix which I will talk about on another post.

On Thanksgiving Monday my aunt and uncle came to visit from London in their newly bought car. Big deal in our fam as we’ve never had a car during our time in Canada. We went to Greektown and had a lovely lunch, no turkey this time. Afterwards, we went to the Scarborough Bluffs and had a lovely stroll in the incredibly amazing weather. FYI, be prepared for photo overload.

Home Sweet Home

Finally! We're all moved in. It took a lot of effort and some stress but the move it's finally over. I haven't quite yet adjusted to the new place but I'm getting there and I'm definitely loving the location.

The move wasn't without it's problems. Like my friend Janet said: "If we didn't have bad luck we wouldn't have any at all." Well I certainly had my share of bad luck during this move. It all started on Monday the day we were scheduled to move. As I was doing some last minute laundry I noticed that the elevators were no longer working. I happened to run into the superintendent and asked what was happening. It looked like both elevators were down and they were waiting for them to be fixed. I started to panick. Just before I went to pick up the moving truck I dropped by the office and they told me they didn't know when or if the elevators would be fixed. I told them I was moving and needed the elevators to move my stuff. They said if it wasn't done I could stay until Tuesday and move out then but that would interfere with the moving truck rental. After a bit of debate we decided to rent the truck anyways and use the stairs to move. Thankfully, I received a message a few minutes later from the office that the elevators were fixed.

The loading overall went well. We put an ad on kijiji to help with the loading and unloading and the guy we picked did a really good job. I barely did any heavy lifting not that it made a difference because I ended up with a few bruises from lifting up boxes. Crazy.

Once we arrived to move in the current tenant was still moving so we had to wait about half an hour. The unloading went surprisingly fast especially since this is a walk up and there are no elevators. We had to go back to the old apartment and get a few things then parked the truck nearby and decided to wait until Tuesday to finish the unloading. There was no parking after 8:00am so we had only 5 hours of sleep before we had to move the truck. We decided to get breakfast at Boom which is conveniently located across the street. We left the truck at a meter while we had our breakfast. On our way back to the truck we realized someone had open the back. Thankfully we didn't have anything of value and nothing was taken.

We went back to unload what was left and of course we got a parking ticket even though we weren't exactly parked just unloading. We tried to talk ourselves out of the ticket but it didn't work. Afterwards, we headed over to Ikea and got our new couch. Yay! It is spacious and comfy and turns into a sofa bed. Bonus! Taking the couch up to the apartment wasn't as hard as I thought it would be even though the boxes were heavy. Between the two of us we managed pretty well. Maybe that's were I got the giant bruises from.

Now all I need to do is finish unpacking and start decorating!
