Ummm? Chicken quesadillas?!

I work at a well known fine dining restaurant in Toronto as a reservations agent. Yesterday I received a very interesting call and I just had to share. This is how the call went down:

Me: "Thank you for calling the ____ restaurant. How can I help you?"

Guest: "I'd like to get a to go order."

Me: *What?* Puzzled look. "I think you have the wrong number sir."

Guest: "Is this the _____ restaurant at ____ ?"

Me: "Yes"

Guest: "Ok, I'd like a to go order"

Me: "I'm sorry sir but we don't do to go orders. It's a full dining restaurant"

Guest: "What do you mean? I've gotten one before"

Me: *Pretty sure I work here and know we don't take to go orders* "Sir, I'm not sure who you spoke with before but it's not possible to get a to go order. You have to dine in the restaurant."

Guest: "I want a chicken quesadilla."

Me: *Chicken quesadillas? Is this a joke?* "We don't have chicken quesadillas"

Guest: "What do you have on your menu?"

Me: "You can find the menu online, sir"

Guest: "I don't care about the money"

Me: "Sir, I never said it had to do anything with money. The menu is just too extensive tell you what's on it over the phone."

Guest: "Okay, if I come to the restaurant. Can I watch the hockey game on tv?"

Me: *Are you for real? What is with this guy? We're not a pub!* "This is a FINE DINING resturant, sir. There are no tv's available.

Guest: "Grrrr!" *Hangs up the phone*

Day off madness

My day off madness started off on Tuesday. Gotta love not having to go to work. I had nothing exciting planned for this day just the typical running errands stuff. However, on my journey I stumbled upon a sale at Mendocino and I couldn't help myself. After tryin out a few outfits I ended up with this gorgeous black sparkly dress for only $25. SCORE!

Wednesday I had a much needed reunion/girl time with my BFF Mary. Hadn't seen her in weeks since were both busy with work or school. We went out for lunch to Pitman - our old residence from university. Weird location? Not at all. They have this incredible pasta that I seriously used to eat at least 3-4 times a week while I lived there. Think that's how I gained my freshman 15 - maybe less but still a considerable amount. Anyways, we had our pasta and relived all those great moments from res as well as university in general. So many fun times! Wish I could go back and relive that first year.

Pitman Hall
Afterwards, we headed to the POD building to get some manicures. Ryerson University had partnered with Marca College and was offering haircuts for $7, manicures for $5 and make-up application for $3. Yes, these were amazing prices! Both Mary and I got cute manicures. I chose to go with a bright pink/coral colour to welcome the spring. The finish was a lot brighter, my camera made it look more matte than it really was.

Finally, we stopped at marble slab for some ice cream before ending the day. If you never been to marble slab, run - seriously run and get some. Best ice cream ever!! I had the black walnut flavour and added walnuts for my topping on a regular waffle cone. Mary got all fancy and had birthday cake and cotton candy with cookie dough on a chocolate covered waffle cup.

All in all I had two very enjoyable days off and I miss them already. Only 2 days to go until my next days off. Here's to hopping they are just as fun :)

Spring has sprung!

NOT! The first day of spring was yesterday and I don't know about you but I was definitely disappointed with the weather. Being at -13 celsius is not my idea of spring. Last year on the first day of spring we were at 21 celcius!! Why couldn't we have that again this year?!  Instead we get chilly wind and snow! Yes, that's right it's snowing during spring!

That's exactly how I feel. I just want winter to end so I can put away that bulky winter coat, gloves and headband. I'm ready for the shorts and t-shirts...okay maybe that's summer...but I will be completely fine with wearing cute sweaters and no longer having to wear pants under my jeans. Yes, I'm that girl that wears double pants. I was born in a hot country. I can't help it. So with that I welcome spring and all the bright colours it brings in both nature and fashion. Can't wait to start wearing colourful outfits and of course go shopping for such items.

Bootcamp accomplished!

As some of you may know, one of my new year's resolution was to start going to the gym - I know, such a uniqe resolution, lol. I have made this resolution every year and failed :(  but I'm happy to say that I actually stuck with it this year!!! Started off as any other year, super pumped and in the gym everyday for a week and then slowly started doing it every other day until I was going maybe once a week. Thankfully, I signed up for a bootcamp that my gym (Goodlife) was offering and it definitely helped me to get motivated and keep up my outings to the gym.

Last tuesday was my last class and I am happy to report that I kicked butt (see below). The bootcamp consisted of 10 different exercises that worked legs, abs, arms, glutes...you name it, it was worked out. Each exercise was done for 1:30 mins with a 30 second break in between each exercise. Now this may seem easy (as that's what I thought too) but once I was doing it, oh my did I kick myself for thinking it'd be a breeze. Halfway through the first few classes 1:30 mins seemed like a lifetime and I just wanted to lay down and forget about it. Once all 10 exercises were done it was time for the body challenge which consisted of two 20 second exercises with a 20 second break in between with the exercises being done 4 times. The first day this last part was not done because we were all too tired and about to die but as the weeks progressed we were pros!

Overall it was a great way to keep motivated and start my way to getting fit. I would recommend the bootcamp to anyone that is just getting started on going to the gym or someone who needs a new routine to keep motivated. Only con is that it did not last the full hour like they say, so if you're fit or used to spending more than an hour at the gym you may find yourself wanting to do more.

Weekend Recap

This post is a little overdue but I've been in a bit of a tired slump the past few days and have procrastinated on posting on my blog.

I'll start off by saying that this weekend was fun but the outcome turned out to be a super tired Astrid who cannot seem to get energized. I kinda blame the daylight savings time for this. Losing an hour of sleep to me is like losing a whole 8 hours! What can I say I love to snooze :)

Saturday started off with work from 9-5 and by the time 3 o'clock came around all I wanted to do was run out of work and be free!! Once work was done it was time to quickly go to the LCBO and get some beer for the night that awaited me. As soon as I got home it was all rush trying to make dinner and eat while getting ready for a night of dancing and fun!! :) Once I was all set and ready, over to my friend Janet's house I went. We were celebrating Janet's birthday a day early and so this obviously involved drinks n fun conversation. Then it was time to head over to the club for dancing!

We went to Babaluú, a latin club in the Yorkville area. This was my second time there and I wasn't dissapointed. This second time around was actually a lot better than the first. I think it may be because it was a Sat and the last time I'd gone was on a Thurs. This club is def great for those who love salsa, merengue and bachata. They do play a bit of top 40s but not very many songs. The club does get very crowded so be ready to get stepped on or possibly get an elbow to the head like I did, lol. Also, it's good to keep in mind that the dress code is semi formal so guys stay away from ripped jeans and runners. We had this problem but thankfully the manager let us in because it was Janet's b-day and we were a group. This is also a great place for those single ladies who don't like to be gropped or danced with from behind by some random guy. The guys at the club are courteous enough to ask you to dance so you have your chance to do so or not. Overall, it was a great night out and I had a lot of fun. I did end up getting home late and having to wake up early the next day for work and with one hr of sleep taken away I was a zombie at work and have been trying to recuperate since then but have failed. Hopefully tomorrow on my day off I can make up the loss of sleep.

Blogging here I come!

Hello and welcome to my new blog!!! Yes, I’ve decided it’s time to use my newly found hobby/obsession of reading blogs into something useful and actually write my very own. Here are some of the reasons why:

1. It will give me a chance to stay connected to those friends and family that no longer live near me and give them a bit of insight as to what it is that I spend all my time doing.

2. It’ll be fun to chronicle my life and then go back in time and see how I’ve grown/changed with the times.

3. With only work keeping me occupied and no longer being in school, I have a lot of free time that could be better used than just watching tv

4. It’ll exercise my brain, which I hardly use now that I’m out of school, and I’ve always enjoyed writing….this does not mean that my grammar or spelling will always be correct!

5. It’ll give me something to do at work when it’s not busy…like right now
Yes, my blog is called “Lovin’ la vida loca” b/c I wanted to incorporate Spanish/English and it pretty much explains my life in a few words, because we all know I can be a bit crazy. So with that said I leave you with this video.  I give you full permission to get up and dance…you know you want to! Enjoy :)
